Whilst you may have grown out of being spooked by a trick or treat scare, if you’re hosting Halloween this year, your bank account certainly hasn’t. However, if you’re not afraid to get creative, it’s possible to have all the thrills without the financial spill.

Decor

One of the great joys of spooky season is decorating your house to fit the mood; however, with Halloween being a relatively short holiday, bang for buck decorations can be limited. Buying decorations that can be re-used and stored throughout the year or fit within the wider Autumn festivity can be beneficial.

The festive season provides a great opportunity to go foraging for décor; try having a look around your local green space to scout out any leaves or branches. Evergreen or leafless plants in large green spaces to avoid the shrubbery rotting would make great decorations – avoid small parks, public places, or people’s gardens!

If you’re looking for spookier décor, try reusing old toys by painting them to give them a creepy new lease of life.

Costume

The next challenge is choosing a spooky outfit. It can be tempting to run straight to the costume shop in a last-minute panic; however, increased prices in favour of the higher demand around Halloween are common. Halloween with a group of friends can be beneficial for costume swaps – a new outfit without the expense!

If you’re willing to plan a year in advance, costume stores will often have large reductions following Halloween!
